  • Damn the Torpedoes

— The band, Damn the Torpedoes, has always been recognized as one of the best tribute bands around. With the recent passing of Tom Petty, this Tom Petty tribute band truly is a tribute to one of the greatest rock and rollers of all-time.

The band is now more dedicated than ever to preserving and sharing the musical legacy of Petty, a rock and roll Hall of Famer.

Damn the Torpedoes will bring that Tom Petty concert experience to The Stanhope House, on main Street in Stanhope, on Saturday Jan. 6.

The band is led by Rich Kubicz, who plays the role of Tom Petty in the show. Kubicz, who has been playing guitar and singing since his early teens, had so many people telling him that he looked and sounded like Tom Petty that he decided to put together in 2007 Damn The Torpedoes as a tribute to Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.

Not knowing much about the tribute world at the time, he started by finding some of the best musicians in his area and trying to replicate that iconic Heartbreakers sound. The goal was to play all of the studio hits, some of the live versions, and a few deep cuts, to create the illusion of a Tom Petty concert performance. This meant that each band member would need to find the same sounds as on the records and play their parts note for note.

Over the years Damn The Torpedoes has evolved with a deeper understanding of the Tom Petty catalog and more committed members. The current lineup has been in place for several years and demonstrates the unspoken chemistry that makes any great band. All of the signature riffs, harmonies and underlying parts of the music are there, and the show has become “second nature” with an artistry and emotion that makes audiences smile. Or as Kubicz likes to say, we deliver the “awe factor” in every performance.

Other band members include Jimi Alan on guitar, Gary Castelluccio on keyboards, Jon Provan on bass and Ross Kantor on drums.
