Squires and Roses receive scholarships

— Keeping a strong tradition alive, members of the Saint Kateri Squires and Roses were among the winners at the 2018 New Jersey Knights of Columbus scholarship ceremony held in Wildwood. Squires Jack Lubertazzi and Patrick Hanley were presented with the John Attardo Memorial scholarship and Squires Jack Morelli and Brian Schoch along with Squire Roses Elizabeth Wolfe and Danielle Reilly were recipients of the Father John Murray scholarship. Additionally, Pope John 8th grader Michael Fowler was presented with the 2018 Father Murray for a Columbian Squire planning on attending a Catholic high school. Squires Paul Farruggia, Christian Gladish, and Johnathan Hope from the St. Jude’s Circle in Budd Lake were also winners of the awards. NJ State Squires Chairman Peter Briody and scholarship chairman Bill Bochicchio made the presentation to the students.

Prior to the ceremony, outgoing New Jersey State Chief Squire Jack Lubertazzi delivered the keynote speech to a group of over 250 Knight officers from around the state. New Jersey state deputy Robert Hatler congratulated the scholarship recipients and personally acknowledged the powerful speech that Lubertazzi gave to the audience reinforcing the value that the Squires and Roses have made to our local communities and the state. Saint Kateri Squires Chief Counselor Nick Cutrone noted, “Our Squires and Roses continue to lead by example and these prestigious and competitive awards are a reflection of their efforts.”

The Squires are the youth leadership branch of the Knights of Columbus for young men ages 10-17 and the Squire Roses for young ladies ages 10-17.
