Conversation groups are a great way for someone from abroad to learn English conversation skills. In January two free conversation classes for adults will be started by LiteracyNJSussex. One is a book club, one general conversation.

The book club/discussion group will meet on Tuesdays at 5:30-8 p.m., at the Sparta Library, lower level (22 Woodport Road, Sparta). The first meeting is Jan. 8; weekly meetings will continue for 12 weeks. The group will read and discuss a book, “Hatchet," about a boy who is the only person to survive a plane crash in the wilderness. His only tool is a hatchet. It is a story of resilience and adaptability.

The general conversation group, for beginning students of English, will meet at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 1 West Nelson Street, Newton. The first session will be on Tuesday, Jan. 29, 6-8 p.m.. The group will meet on Tuesdays for 11 weeks .

LiteracyNJSussex also provides free one-on-one tutoring of adults in English.

To register for the Book Club or the Conversation Group, or to receive one-on-one tutoring, or to find out how to become a tutor, call Mary at 973-300-9444 or visit LiteracyNJ.org.
