  • The High Tea Time Charity Event by Sparta Friends and Neighbors is an annual social and charitable event making a difference in the community this year and every year.

The sun came out for Sparta Friends and Neighbors High Tea Charity Event at Andre’s Lakeside. Guests donned brightly colored dresses and hats as they entered the beautifully decorated dining room. The menu included baskets full of delicious muffins and scones, followed by soup, salad, elegant tea sandwiches, and a delectable array of dainty desserts.

The event included a silent auction and a treasure chest to raise money for the two designated charities: Katie’s House and Ginnie’s House.

Katie’s House is a non-profit 501(c) (3) organization that provides supportive housing, activities and services to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Guests were delighted to speak with Katie herself as she greeted them upon arrival.

Ginnie’s House, also located in Newton, provides a child-friendly environment where children are helped through the coordinated efforts of child protection, law enforcement and prosecution, healthcare and mental health agencies when child abuse is suspected, disclosed or reported.

Sparta Friends and Neighbors co-chairs, Merry McDonald, Jill Bainbridge, and Dianne Ward, presented the proceeds from the event to both charities at their May general meeting. McDonald thanked all those who helped make the day possible and added, “Helen Keller said ‘Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much.’ The community of Sparta Friends and Neighbors pooled their talents to create a successful Spring Charity Event for the benefit of others, our two charities.”
